The historical building that is the location of Blackfish Resort once operated as a thriving salmon cannery from 1900-1929. In the 1980’s the old cannery and adjacent land was purchased by a local land developer and the building went through a major renovation. 

 

In 2003 it caught the eye of Steve O’Neill, owner of a small café nearby, who became interested in moving his growing operation into the building. Over the next 18 years, Steve's interest blossomed from expanding his café into a passion to create a world-class resort.

 

He acquired the property from the developer and began a six-year-long battle to lock in all the numerous permits to repurpose the existing building and build the first luxury resort in Point Roberts, Washington.
